Justice Irfan Saadat Khan takes oath as SC judge

ISLAMABAD: Justice Irfan Saadat Khan, acting Chief Justice of Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday took oath as judge of the Supreme Court.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Qazi Faez Isa administered the oath of office to Justice Irfan Saadat Khan, Acting Chief Justice of the High Court of Sindh as Judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan in a ceremony held here. Judges of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Attorney General for Pakistan, representatives of the Federal Judicial Academy, Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan, Pakistan Bar Council, Supreme Court Bar Association along with senior advocates, advocates, advocates on record and officers and staff of the Supreme Court of Pakistan attended the ceremony. Ms. Jazeela Aslam, Registrar Supreme Court of Pakistan conducted the proceedings.

On October 20, the Judicial Commission of Pakistan approved the elevation of Justice Irfan Saadat Khan as a Judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. During the meeting, Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Qazi Faez Isa said that Justice Irfan Saadat Khan meets the stipulated requirement, is knowledgeable, well experienced, versatile, has an upright character and is also the most senior judge amongst the chief justices and judges of all the high courts. All the members present in the meeting also unanimously approved the nominations, which were also endorsed in writing by the law minister, who was abroad.

With the elevation of Justice Irfan Saadat Khan, the strength of judges of the Supreme Court comes to 16, while one more post still remains to be filled to meet the requirement of 17 judges.
