Asfandyar demands commission under CJP
Panama Leaks
Blames govt policies for present political crisis
PESHAWAR: Awami National Party (ANP) head Asfandyar Wali Khan said on Wednesday that the policies of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz-led government to deal with the situation arising after the Panama Leaks have led the country to another political crisis.
In a statement issued here, the ANP leader demanded the government to form an autonomous judicial commission under the chief justice of Pakistan, which could transparently investigate the matter at a given time.
He said that instead of carrying out a credible investigation of the offshore companies and overseas accounts, the government remained confined to mere political gimmicks, which has given birth to serious questions about the moral justification of the PML-N rule.
He said Pakistani people rightly rejected the announcement of the prime minister to constitute a so-called investigation commission. He said the prime minister, by not taking the parliament into confidence, has aggravated the situation. Asfandyar Wali Khan announced support to the demand of the opposition parties that the matter of Panama Leaks should be transparently and comprehensively investigated.
He also urged the opposition parties to stay calm till the formation and results of the proposed judicial commission. The ANP leader said it was the need of the hour that the democratic forces should cleverly and carefully protect the democratic system in the country. Asfandyar Wali Khan declared that the ANP would oppose every bid to derail the democratic process.
