Sara Inam murder case: Suspect terms evidence against him baseless
ISLAMABAD: Shahnawaz Amir, the prime suspect in Sara Inam’s murder case, has rejected all evidence submitted by the prosecution against him and called it ‘baseless’.
Amir was presented before Additional District and Sessions Judge Nasir Javed Rana on Wednesday. He told the judge that on the night of the incident, his mother prepared dinner for them. “We all ate together, chatted a lot and then went to sleep. Sara went to bathroom in the middle of the night. I was asleep at that time. I woke up at 7am and went to F-8 Market to get breakfast,” he said and added: “When I came back at 9am, Sarah was not in the room and upon searching, he found her lying in a bathtub. When I saw Sara, she was already dead.”
Following Amir’s statement, the judge inquired whether he had any additional evidence to offer in his defence. In response, he appealed to the court for an extension of time until the upcoming hearing. Later, the court postponed proceedings until November 1.
During proceedings, Investigating Officer Nawazish Ali was present with the case file. Prosecutor Hassan Abbas, Amir’s mother Sameena and Sara’s father were also in attendance.
Inam, a 37-year-old economist, had been killed with dumb-bells by her husband Shahnawaz Amir, according to police. The incident occurred at a suburban Islamabad home on September 23, 2022. Inam had married Amir in July of her own free will.
