Without naming Nawaz: PPP questions caretaker Punjab govt’s authority to suspend sentences
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) questioned on Wednesday, without mentioning the suspension of the sentence of former Prime Minister and Supremo of PML-N Nawaz Sharif in the Al-Azizia reference by the caretaker Punjab government, in what capacity the caretaker government of Punjab suspending the sentences of an accused.
“The conscious sections are justified to ask the question whether the facility of biometrics of an accused is not unusual,” Secretary General PPP Syed Nayyer Bokhari questioned in a statement on Wednesday.
Bokhari warned that said that the federal and supervisory governments should refrain from facilitating measures of certain parties and personalities.
While reiterating the demand for the announcement of the election date and schedule for the elections in the country, Bokhari said the PPP will continue to demand the Election Commission of Pakistan for the announcement of the date and schedule for the elections. He said the PPP wants a level-playing field for all, and establishing a parliamentary democratic system through free and transparent elections is a constitutional requirement.
Syed Nayyer Bukhari said that PPP believes in the power of the people who give the right to rule for the economic stabilization of the country. He warned that if the level-playing field is not given to all the political parties to ensure free, fair elections, the election results will be a question mark. “If the election results are not recognized, there will be irreparable damage due to the constitutional crisis in the country,” he said, adding that the PPP has made sacrifices for a parliamentary and democratic system which guarantees the economic stability of the government elected by the people.
