Creation of awareness about traffic laws stressed

PESHAWAR: Speakers at an awareness session on Tuesday informed the participants about traffic laws and the measures being taken by traffic police to ensure smooth flow of traffic.

The event was jointly organised by the office of media and public relations of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University Peshawar and City Traffic Police as part of its awareness campaign. Superintendent (Education) at headquarters of traffic police, Shazia Shahid, was the keynote speaker on the occasion. The session was also addressed by other officials of the traffic police and the university.

Shazia Shahid said that the process required cooperation from the general public for which creating awareness among them was necessary. She said that an effort was made to create awareness from primary school level to the universities and Volunteer Task Forces were formed in educational institutions to help achieve the goal.

“The students will educate the citizens about the traffic rules in different areas of the city,” she said and asked the female students to initiate this awareness in their homes as well.A number of female students expressed their desire to join the volunteer task force of City Traffic Police Peshawar, as a result of which City Traffic Police Peshawar jackets were also provided to some of the students. During the interactive session, the students gave suggestions and discussed issues related to their areas which were noted by the team for taking measures.

A mobile license unit was exclusively provided by the City Traffic Police Peshawar for the students and staff of the university, benefiting from which driving licenses were also issued to 65 students and staff.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Registrar Media and Public Relations of the university, Sehrish Zafar, said that in today’s society, women are empowered to advance in professional fields.

She emphasized that along with obeying the traffic rules, we should behave politely with the staff on traffic duty, and through the platform of this session she stressed upon the dire need to improve the health facilities and equipment for the traffic staff on duty.
