HARIPUR: Besides human health, the iodine deficiency affects the ecosystem as the lack of iodine in individuals causes low dietary admission, which then results in low ecological iodine.

This was the crux of presentations from experts at a seminar held to mark the “World Iodine Deficiency Day” here on Monday.

The Nutrition Internal and Health Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Public Health Department of University of Haripur had jointly organised.Miss Rabia Khawaja from Nutrition International(USI), Dr Asad Mehmood from Health Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Dr Shahbaz Zaki, head of Public Health Department, University of Haripur, were key speakers.

They said that the arrival of iodine from seawater to air was more mind-boggling than volatilisation of iodide. The experts said that development of iodine from air to plant and soil and afterward into the eating regimen was ineffectively perceived

They said that the Glaciation, draining, flooding and disintegration could not be guaranteed to prompt natural iodine deficiency.Miss Rabia Khawaja while speaking on the topic said that awareness regarding the importance of iodine in daily life was imperative.

She said Iodine was a minor component that was normally present in certain food varieties, was added to certain sorts of salt, and was accessible as a dietary enhancement. “Iodine is a fundamental part of the thyroid chemicals thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroid chemicals manage numerous significant biochemical responses, including protein union and enzymatic action, and are basic determinants of metabolic action,” she added.

Dr Asad Mehmood while sharing his presentation said that the iodine deficiency among adult caused goiter with its confusions, hypothyroidism, impeded mental capability, unconstrained hyperthyroidism in the old, iodine-prompted hyperthyroidism, expanded defenselessness of the thyroid organ to atomic radiation.

In children and adolescents, he said it might cause goiter (subclinical) hypothyroidism, disabled mental capability, hindered actual turn of events, expanded helplessness of the thyroid organ to atomic radiation.

The lack of iodine during pregnancy caused premature delivery, stillbirths, Inherent oddities, expanded perinatal bleakness and mortality, endemic cretinism. Later a walk was held at the university to mark the day.
