LAHORE: Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi has approved the establishment of the first government cancer hospital in City. He directed a comprehensive plan in this regard. During his visit to Manawan Hospital, the chief minister inspected the designated site for the cancer hospital and the existing hospital building.

He assessed an adjacent building and assigned the task of converting Manawan Hospital into a specialised cancer treatment facility. Mohsin Naqvi emphasised that Punjab, with a population of 140 million, lacks a state-of-the-art cancer hospital, leaving many in a struggle for proper cancer care.

A meeting convened in the committee room of Manawan Hospital, chaired by the chief minister, reviewed the proceedings related to the establishment of the cancer hospital.

According to the notification issued by Principal Al-Farid Zafar, the monitoring committee will be headed by Prof Khizr Hayat Gondal while the members include Dr Javaid Mumtaz, Dr Lyla Shafique, Naseem Khaliq, Muhammad Ali and Zafar Mukhtar.

Steps to combat smog

In light of the prevailing smog conditions, it was decided that educational institutions in Punjab would not observe a holiday on Wednesday this week. A special meeting focusing on anti-smog measures was convened Monday at the CM's Office, presided over by the chief minister, with the participation of provincial ministers.

During the meeting, it was unanimously agreed, based on an improvement in the air quality index, that Wednesday would not be declared a holiday. Mohsin Naqvi issued directives to the IGP and Secretary Transport for a continued and effective crackdown on vehicles emitting smoke.

Visits Kot Lakhpat Jail

Mohsin Naqvi arrived unannounced at Central Jail Kot Lakhpat. The CM called his staff to address the prisoners' immediate issues. Notably, he directed for free eye surgeries upon the prisoners' request, and instructed the establishment of a specialised medical camp on the jail premises to cater to their healthcare needs.

During their interaction, the prisoners shared details of their cases with the CM. Responding decisively, he directed the IGP, Advocate General Punjab, and CCPO Lahore to conduct a personal review of these cases. He ensured compliance with legal requisites by ordering the transfer of a prisoner from Lahore to Gujrat Jail.

Moved by the accounts of elderly women prisoners, he offered comfort and reassured them that every effort would be made to uphold justice in their cases. He vowed to personally oversee their cases, assuring them of fair treatment. The Deputy Commissioner and SSP are slated to visit the Investigation Jail to directly address the concerns of female prisoners.

Meanwhile, the CM also visited the LDA One Window Cell, met with the staff, engaging in discussions about the challenges they face and sought feedback from citizens regarding the services provided there.
