QUETTA: Two militants were killed on Sunday during an exchange of fire with security forces in the Lehri Tehsil near Sibi. According to a Frontier Corps (FC) spokesman, militants opened fire at the patrolling party of security forces, wounding four personnel. Security forces resorted to retaliatory firing in which two attackers were killed. Weapons were recovered from the possession of militants, the paramilitary spokesman added. A search operation was launched and more troops were called out in the area to apprehend the remaining militants, he said. Two Afghan policemen were also killed in a militant attack in the Chaman area.A senior police official told reporters that six militants on three motorcycles opened fire at the vehicle of Afghan policemen in the Chaman Bypass area. The assailants sped away after the strike, the official said. The Afghan cops, who belonged to the Helmand province, were en route to Quetta for medical treatment when the attack took place. The bodies were shifted to the Chaman District Headquarters Hospital for postmortem. There was no claim of responsibility for the attack. A woman and her son were killed and another son was kidnapped by unknown armed men in the Dasht area, 80 kilometres from Turbat. The armed men entered the house of Muhammad Umar and opened fire at his wife Mahili Bibi and his son. The assailants abducted another son of Muhammad Umar and took him to an unidentified location after the incident. The reason of killings could not be ascertained.Meanwhile, unidentified men blew up two gas pipelines in Pirkoh and Loti area of Dera Bugti. In the first incident, terrorists planted an explosive device beside the pipeline carrying gas from Well No10 in the Pirokoh area which went off damaging a portion of eight-inch diameter gas pipeline. The terrorists also blew up a gas pipeline carrying gas from Well No12 in the Loti gas field area. The explosion caused damage to the pipeline suspending the gas supply to the purification plant. The pipelines exploded with the gap of 10 minutes, disrupting supplies to the plant. Earlier, the FC recovered and diffused a bomb installed near a gas pipeline in the Peer Sehwari area of Dera Bugti.Security forces patrolling the area of Peer Sehwari recovered a seven-kg bomb planted near an eight-inch gas pipeline and foiled a terror bid.
