Dealer vehicle registration, camera-integrated fine approved

LAHORE

The Punjab Cabinet Committee on law and order approved dealer vehicle registration system and camera-integrated fining on traffic rules violations in the province.

Provincial Minister for Law Rana Sanaullah presided over a special meeting at Civil Secretariat, which approved Rs100 increase in fines for all traffic rules violations by motorcyclists and Rs300 to 500 increase in fine for juvenile driving. Addressing the meeting, Rana Sanaullah said that a better mechanism must be in place to ensure payment of all traffic fines. Senior member SMU Law & Order Salman Sufi suggested payment of traffic fines at the time of transfer of vehicle or payment of token tax. IG Police Mushtaq Sukhera gave suggestions of installation of RFID (radio frequency identification device) chips in the licence plates. He said that the RFID readers installed at various points on the roads would detect the non-payment of fines and the spotted vehicles could be stopped to make their owners pay their fines. Salman Sufi said that after enforcement of dealers vehicle system, no “applied for” vehicles would be allowed to operate on Punjab roads; otherwise, such vehicles would be impounded. He said that licence plate would be used as identity of owner of the vehicle and fines would be attached to the licence plate. This committee also approved this proposal. Special assistant to chief minister, Rana Maqbool Ahmad, secretaries of Home, Law and Excise & Taxation departments attended the meeting.
