Three members of a family die after taking Phakki

FAISALABAD: Three members of a family died while four others fell unconscious after taking ‘Phakki’ at Chak 50/RB, Nishatabad, on Wednesday night.

The family of Abdul Haq consumed Phakki. As a result, they fell unconscious. They were shifted to the Allied Hospital where Abdul Haq’s wife Naziran Bibi, daughter Mehwish and brother-in-law, Muhammad Aslam died while Nazish, Abdul Ghaffar, Sanam and Iqbal were in critical condition. It is pertinent to mention that the marriage ceremony of Nazish was due on April 9, but now it has been postponed.

APCA WARNS OF PROTEST: The All Pakistan Clerks Association (Apca) would launch a protest campaign against the government if their just demands were not met in a fortnight.

Addressing a meeting here on Thursday, Apca provincial general secretary Abdul Aziz Bhatti demanded that the government employees of BPS-1 to BPS-4 working on adhoc basis should be made permanent immediately. He also demanded upgradation of technical cadre workers and regularisation of contract employees of the Zakat and Ushr Department.

Apca divisional president Imtiaz Ahmad and a large number of Apca members expressed their determination to continue the struggle to secure their basic rights from the government.

KILLER CONVICTED: District and Sessions Judge Abid Hussain Qureshi on Thursday convicted a tailor in a sodomy-cum-murder case.

The judge awarded death sentence to Nasir Ali, a tailor of Chak 266/RB. The prosecution said that the convict had killed nine-year-old Zohaib after sodomising him.

ARREST WARRANTS: Additional Sessions Judge Arshad Mehmood has issued arrest warrants for five police officials of Mansoorabad police station for their failure to attend the court to record their statements in a murder case.

They are SI Muhammad Ibrahim and constables Ejaz Ahmad, Zulqarnain, Ghulam Hussain and Tahir Nadeem.

 

Two commit suicide in Faisalabad

FAISALABAD: Two people committed suicide in separate incidents here.

In the first incident, Ghulam Mustafa, a retired teacher of Haider Park, Gojra, committed suicide by swallowing poisonous pills over a domestic dispute. In the second incident, a young boy of a nearby village on Faisalabad-Jhang Road committed suicide by hanging himself with a ceiling fan of his house over a domestic dispute.
