Child killed, nine hurt in Chaman blast

Remote-controlled bomb defused in Kohat

CHAMAN: A child was killed while nine persons sustained injuries in an explosion in the Rush Bazaar of Chaman district on Sunday.
District Police Officer (DPO) Chaman Asad Khan said that a remote controlled bomb fixed to a vehicle parked near a Hindu temple exploded with a huge thud, injuring 10 persons, including a child. The eight-year-old child succumbed to his injuries at hospital.
The explosion smashed the windowpanes of nearby buildings and homes in the area. Balochistan Home Secretary Akbar Hussain Durrani confirmed the bombing and casualties. Durrani said four of the wounded had been discharged from hospital after treatment.
Meanwhile, an eight-inch diameter gas pipeline was blown up by unknown terrorists near the Pirkoh area of Dera Bugti district. According to police, the terrorists had planted an improvised explosive device (IED) near the gas pipeline which went off. Gas supply to Well No. 21 and Well No. 22 was disrupted.
A four-inch diameter water supply pipeline was also blown up in the Nokani area of Dera Bugti. Meanwhile, the law enforcement agencies recovered arms including SMG, Kalashnikovs, pistols, magazine and rounds in the Bonistan area of Panjgur district.
According to Levies force, weapons including three SMGs, two Kalashnikovs, two magazines of SMG, four pistols, two short guns and 250 magazines were recovered during search operation. — Agencies
Our Kohat correspondent adds: Police defused an IED on Kohat-Hangu Road here on Sunday. DPO Shoaib Ashraf told reporters that terrorists had filled explosives inside a block made of concrete and placed it on the Kohat-Hangu Road in Muhammadzai area. After receiving information about the suspicious object on the roadside, police along with bomb disposal unit (BDU) reached the spot and defused the IED. The official said that 10 kilograms of explosives besides ball bearings had been used in making the IED which was connected to a remote control.
