SUKKUR: A mega scheme worth of Rs 1,130 million for upgrading the dilapidated sewerage system of Larkana city is in doldrums due to ill planning of the authorities. The authorities in Larkana have failed to hire the services of consultants, thus, the fate of Rs1,130 million project of sewerage hangs in the balance. Representatives of civil society expressed concern over the prevailing substandard work on mega drainage project. The Sindh government had approved the sewerage project and assigned the Public Health Engineering for executing the mega scheme. Sources said that the contract of the scheme was awarded to the favourite contractor after a huge bribe.Despite construction of the RCC drainage system under the Larkana Development Package, several roads were inundated by sewage water, existing drainage system had failed completely to dispose of water and citizens were facing many hardships in this regard. MNA Faryal Talpur has issued directives several times to the district administration and NSUSC authorities to redress the problems of citizens but it seems the authorities have not paid any heed to her orders. During her meeting with officials of district administration Larkana regarding the cleanliness of the city, she directed the officials concerned of the NSUSC, Public Health Engineering and TMA to take necessary steps and ensure cleanliness in the city. The citizens and representatives of civil society have appealed to Co-chairman PPP Asif Ali Zardari, CM Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah, and Faryal Talpur to take notice of the ill planning and corruption of officials.
