This refers to the letter, ‘Musharraf case’ (March 27) by Dr Najeeb A Khan. It is incorrect to suggest that Gen (r) Musharraf stood clear of all cases filed against him in the country because no case has been closed. In fact, all the cases are politically motivated as per practice in vogue in the country. The media has recorded each and every event about the cases and people are fully aware about the background of these cases. The rest is history.
Our media continues to highlight the failings of the government in handling state matters daily. The chief justice of Pakistan has also pointed out that incompetence of different institutions is responsible for bad governance in the country and that 17 judges cannot put things right. Our problem is that we have no rule of law, and where there is some semblance of law, it is selectively applied. Institutional deviations from the constitution in the past have destroyed the basic functioning of the state. Musharraf is part of the same system and his case should not be viewed in isolation.
