The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) is practically dysfunctional these days because of Indian attempts to isolate Pakistan diplomatically in the region. After the Kathmandu summit in 2014, Pakistan was to host the next summit in 2016 but India refused pointblank to participate in the conference following an attack on an Indian army base in IIOJK, which New Delhi blamed on Pakistan-based militant organizations. Consequently, the scheduled Islamabad summit could not be held, and since then the future of the toothless SAARC appears uncertain and bleak. Likewise, India is also in pursuit of finding a lame pretext to hijack the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
The PM Modi-led BJP government is involved in various attempts to defame Pakistan whether it is in the UN, the United States or elsewhere. In his recent visit to Washington DC, Modi left no stone unturned to accuse Pakistan of cross-border terrorism. All these sinister conspiracies being orchestrated by New Delhi to malign Islamabad will gain no ground as the world is fully cognizant of India’s brutal occupation of Kashmir. Islamabad will continue to resist and never surrender to any pressure tactics from the BJP government that has tightened the noose around the minorities in its own land.
