This refers the article, ‘Musharraf first’ (March 21) by Syed Talat Hussain. The writer has rightly observed that the departure of Pervez Musharraf has been lost in the miasma of the cricket mania and a host of new/old issues that fill the long, idle hours in the media. The writer is the only person belonging to the media who has analysed the issue in a very comprehensive manner. He has pointed out very boldly the institutions that facilitated the departure of the dictator so easily.
General Musharraf not only dismissed the elected government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, but also tried to subdue the judiciary. He spoiled every institution of the country. He offered every facility to a foreign power to launch an unjust attack on Afghanistan. We are still reaping the outcome of this unholy war. The present government came into power promising to offer good governance. But unfortunately it has failed to live up to its promise. There is no democracy and no rule of law in the country. Had there been rule of law, Musharraf would have been tried and punished in accordance with the constitution.
