KARACHI: Doctors are being killed in the city of Quaid every day and are also receiving threats and calls for payment of Bhatta (extortion). Well-known medical specialists and doctors have, therefore, started leaving and shifting to foreign countries.
In such circumstances, the establishment of standard hospitals where qualified doctors offering services is a blessing.
It is a known fact that hospitals are a need of the society, therefore, keeping this in view and provide better facilities to people, the S M Sohail Trust has established Medicare Hospital on Shaheed-e-Millat Road. It will be inaugurated on Sunday, February 15.
The Medicare Hospital was originally established in 1974. In the year 1998 it was converted into Jinnah Medical and Dental College and hospital facilities were suspended.
When it was established, the Medicare Hospital was considered as one the best hospitals of the city and got great honour and achievements in those days. It was the first private hospital where first successful surgery of cardiac bypass was performed.
The Trust decided to open the Medicate Hospital once again in 2014, considering increase in population of the city and scarcity of standard treatment facilities. The first successful angiography was performed on October 13, 2014 while successful angioplasty was performed on November 7 while the first successful bypass and cardiac surgery was performed on 2nd February, 2015. The Medicare Hospital will have all necessary facilities and surgical operations will also be performed for all diseases. There will be special treatment of heart diseases.
The hospital building comprises seven storeys, with a capacity of 150 beds, 30 clinics, 12 ventilators, seven operation theatres, two cath laboratories, seven isolation wards, emergency CCU and ICU, laboratory, pharmacy and physiotherapy department, as well as other facilities. The latest equipment have been installed in the hospital, making it the best among all other hospitals.
The Managing Trustee of SM Sohail Trust, Syed Tariq Suhail, said basic aim is to promote the latest advanced medical education and medical practice so that the standard of medical practices is improved, doctors and paramedics perform with best of their abilities for the benefit of the people. He said the Trust had also established at Jinnah Medical College Hospital in Orange Industrial Area, where people are being given free medical treatment.
Our cardiac emergency is opened 24 hours. We had set up free heart camps to create awareness among masses about these diseases. Soon we will organise seminars and workshops highlighting various diseases specially heart-related. He said that the Medicare Hospital is an excellent addition to the list of healthcare institutions providing best medical facilities. He said that CCSD has also been installed which keeps instruments germ-free during a surgery because if a patient gets infected it creates complications for him and may lead to his death. He said that heart bypass surgery in children will also be done at the hospital. We have hired nurses who have experience of working at cardiac ICU as post-operation care of a patient is very important. We have some modern machines which other hospitals lack.
Col (retd) Baqir Nawab, hospital’s head of operations, said that usually poor patients visiting emergency departments of private hospitals are charged prior to providing treatment to them. However, if a deserving patient visits our emergency we will first provide him treatment at all costs and also extend cooperation. Our first priority is providing best treatment at a low-cost. We will never compromise our standard. Our entire staff is well qualified and trained. New and latest machines have been purchased for the hospital. All surgeries including neuro, orthopedic and spinal will be performed at the hospital. The hospital has a welfare department which will cooperate with the deserving patients.
