Siraj warns rulers against amending Constitution
LAHORE
Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) ameer Senator Sirajul Haq has warned the government against amending Islamic articles of the Constitution, saying the nation is united and the state is functioning perfectly under the Constitution but if the Constitution is made controversial, the nation will never become united and unanimous on any constitution again.
The rulers only act upon those articles of the Constitution which refer to their own powers but never care for those calling for the rights of the masses, he alleged while addressing the concluding session of a two-day training workshop at Mansoora on Monday.
He said the Constitution made rulers duty bound for eradicating interest based economy and corruption, and enable the masses to live their lives according to Quran and Sunnah. Siraj alleged that the rulers were harassing Ulema and religious scholars in seminaries only to please the US and the West.
He alleged that thousands of Ulema and teachers of seminaries were arrested and tortured without any crime. He said a secular lobby left no chance of vilifying Islam and Ulema and their vicious campaign reached to the extent that the serving officer of Indian army working for RAW was being linked with seminaries.
He reminded that Article 31 of the Constitution held bound the rulers to enforce and promote the teachings of Quran and Sunnah in the country to enable people lead their lives according to Islam. But the rulers were removing Islamic chapters from the syllabi and replacing it with western culture to secularise the country to please the foreign masters, he alleged.
He alleged that the rulers were dividing the nation on the basis of language and culture. Meanwhile, PTI vice president, Punjab Doctors Wing, Dr Zubair Qadir, announced joining the Jamaat e Islami, at a meeting with Senator Sirajul Haq at Mansoora. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Zubair Qadir said honest and sincere leadership of JI alone could steer the country out of the prevailing crisis.
