LAHORE: Flourmill owners have unilaterally increased the price of flour, blaming the upward trend in wheat market. The ex-mill price of 20kg bag of flour has been increased by Rs100 to Rs2,800.
However, a senior official of the Food Department has termed the stance of flour millers as part of mere propaganda tactics. The senior official claimed that wheat is abundantly available across the province and there are no basis for the price hike.
These grain can be transported to anywhere in the province and therefore mills cannot jack up price on the pretext of wheat shortage.
Moreover, he said mills have also succeeded in getting decision in their favour from court against wheat movement.
This move also allowed stockists to intervene in the market and indulge in black marketing of grains, which is not a good omen for the wheat business.
On the other hand, Progressive Flour Millers have not yet increased price of flour. We have not enhanced the prices of flour yet, said a progressive flourmill owner.
