The attacks on Islam and Islamic practices across the West are truly alarming. In the latest incident, a man in Sweden has desecrated the Holy Quran, drawing widespread condemnation from both Islamic countries and the Swedish government.
There has clearly been a rise in Islamophobia in Western countries. This is unfortunate as Islam exhorts its followers to live in and maintain peace and the vast majority of Muslims do just that. Scapegoating an entire people for the actions of a few extremist elements is wrong. There is a need to educate people in the West about the true spirit and meaning of Islam in order to counteract the rapid rise of Islamophobia.
