Attack on parliament ‘unwarranted vandalism’: Zardari
ISLAMABAD: President Pakistan People's Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) and former president Asif Ali Zardari Sunday condemned hooliganism by some elements in Islamabad Sunday evening and warned of far-reaching repercussions of what he called such unwarranted vandalism.
Spokesperson Senator Farhatullah Babar said the former president was perturbed over reports that some people chanting slogans had breached security cordons and converged on the Red Zone in the federal capital attempting even to breach the security and sanctity of Parliament House.
"No cause is strong enough to justify such brazen attacks on Parliament and symbols of the state," he quoted the former president as saying. Zardari said this latest assault on Parliament building will achieve nothing but a pyrrhic victory, a la dharna.
"It will only increase the vulnerability of an elected parliament to elements that are averse to a functioning Parliament and democratic system," the former president said. Zardari hoped that sanity will prevail and the protesters will peacefully disperse. "The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) cannot support such lawlessness; it will not," he said.
