MCCI president for enhancing trade ties with Iran

MULTAN: Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Fareed Mughees Sheikh has stressed the need for developing bilateral trade with Iran and said that Pakistan has an opportunity to take benefit of Iranian market after lifting of sanctions.
He said this while talking to journalists here on Friday. The MCCI president while commenting on the visit of President of Iran Hassan Rouhani said that it had opened new avenues for enhancing economic interaction. He lauded Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for initiating serious efforts to boost trade with the Iran. Pakistan and Iran could become an important trading partner for which serious efforts had been initiated while an FTA between both brotherly countries would be an achievement of the government, he said. Fareed Sheikh said that Pakistan should enhance electricity imports to 1000MW. He said that Sui gas pipeline project was still under sanctions so every available option should be explored. He said that Pakistan and Iran should ink new energy deal after lifting sanctions on the import of gas from Iran as it would bring revolution in Pakistan’s energy sector. The MCCI president said that Pakistan should not waste any time for opening of banking channels with Iran and improve transport infrastructure.
