Top Egypt players to play in squash series in Pakistan
KARACHI: Top Egypt squash players and their Pakistani counterparts will be seen in action in the Legends vs Champions series, which will be held here from April 5 to 7.
Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) has termed the event a ‘milestone’ on the road to reviving the sport that gave Pakistan an unprecedented success for more than four decades. Besides the series, a squash carnival will also be held at the PAF Museum, Shahrah-e-Faisal, on April 4.
The PSF has joined hands with the top sports management professionals who raised the bar of the industry by organising the successful Pakistan Super League (PSL).
The PSF also announced that the record ten-time British Open champion Jahangir Khan, along with other squash legends, had endorsed the event.
“It is a real pleasure to be a part of this event, especially with the federation that has the vision to make a difference,” Jahangir said. “I still believe that we have talent and it is all about giving the youngsters an opportunity,” he added.
Pakistan’s top-ten men’s players will feature in the series. Women’s number one Maria Toor will also play an exhibition match.
Five-member Egypt team, comprising three top-ranked players, will participate. Their squad includes world number four Omar Mossad, world number six Tariq Momen, world number seven Karim Abdul Gawad, world number 17 Mazen Hasham and world number 14 Ali Farag.
For the first time, a four-walled state-of-the-art glass court will be set up for the event.
