Scholarship cheques distributed among disabled students

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Ghulam Ali on Monday said the disabled children were an important part of the society and the government would not abandon them.He was speaking as chief guest at a ceremony at the Khyber Medical University (KMU), where scholarship cheques were distributed among the disabled students. Advisor to Caretaker Chief Minister on Health Prof Dr Riaz Anwar, former provincial minister Amanullah Haqqani, former Member Provincial Assembly Atif-ur-Rehman, KMU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Zia-ul-Haq, faculty members, and students were also present.

Addressing the students, the governor said that this country belongs to all of us and we all have to play our role for its development, integrity, and security with unity. Ghulam Ali said that the May 9 events had hurt every patriotic Pakistani, asking the youth to work together with the national and defense institutions to protect public and state property. The governor appreciated the KMU administration for giving a complete fee waiver to the disabled students and said that it was a commendable initiative.He said that as the chancellor, he had instructed the universities to give priority to disabled children in admissions and to waive their fees. The governor emphasized that disabled students should be given special consideration in the provision of jobs.

He said that every child had the right to health facilities and other basic needs, including modern and quality education. Ghulal Alis said the disabled children were being provided with full opportunities to come forward in other fields of education, including medicine.He said that Khyber Medical University was an important educational institution that has its own history of educational achievements. The governor distributed fee waiver certificates to 80 disabled students of medical and allied health sciences affiliated with the university. He also distributed cheques among 19 female students, who received scholarships from USAID.
