CM package for agri sector hailed

MULTAN: Local businessmen, industrialists and manufacturers have lauded Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif for announcing Rs 1 billion package for agriculture sector in the province.
In a press release issued here on Monday, Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Fareed Mughis Sheikh said that the package would bring revolution in agricultural sector in Punjab. He said that it was need of the hour to enhance per acre yield of crops, supply of good quality and certified seeds, fertilisers, insecticides, pesticides and other inputs. He said that modern technology and cheap agri inputs were vital to increase yield of crops. Fareed Sheikh said that agricultural scientists, progressive growers and all working groups should sit together for betterment of agriculture sector. The MCCI president said that our cotton production should be 20 million bales and our wheat production must be doubled. He also hailed the government’s decision to make the Kisan Commission. Fareed Sheikh said that due to climatic changes, farmers were facing problems and were not getting due share of profit. Keeping in view of current climate changes, we had to bring innovation and new policy to cope with existing challenges, he added.
