BAHAWALPUR: Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Ameer Sirajul Haq addressing a big gathering of farmers under the umbrella of the Kissan Board Pakistan in Khairpur Tamewali on Tuesday evening while kicking off the “Kissan Bachao” said Raj has gone but the British cruelty is still there in the form of desi British rulers. He warned the rulers of starting a long march to Islamabad if farmers’ demands were not met. He said during the Raj, water was available for Cholistanis and their cattle heads but now Cholistanis and their cattle were striving for water to survive. He said farmers were producing grain for the country but they themselves were struggling to live. He asked the rulers only to make the farmers prosperous and the entire country would become prosperous. There is no need to indulge in gimmicks in the name of prosperity and development. He categorically said Pakistan is surviving due to poor people and farmers who were paying taxes regularly while on the other hand every ruler had made Rs15 billion annually through corruption and deposited this money in foreign accounts. This is the tragic episode of Pakistan’s poor farmers and poor Pakistanis. He said today I am addressing the most important public gathering of my life and I hope that all farmers participating in this historic gathering would play their due role in pulling the country out of crises. He urged the Islamabad rulers that for God’s sake look into the miseries of the growers and give them interest-free loans and ban import of agri-products from India which were causing huge deficit to country’s trade as well as losses to farmers. He also claimed that country’s socio-political and economic problems can be resolved only through Islamic revolution as we have tried all other systems and by bringing in power Pakhtuns, Balochs, Punjabis and Sindhi people. Earlier, Jamaat-e-Islami Punjab Ameer Dr Syed Waseem Akhtar and Kissan Board Pakistan President Sadiq Khan Khakwani highlighted farmers’ problems and presented their demands for their resolution amid warning for starting a long march. Dr Syed Waseem Akhtar has demanded for immediate restoration of Bahawalpur provincial status and construction of Kalabagh Dam which is the only solution to resolve energy crisis.
