PESHAWAR: The Counter Terrorism Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday arrested an alleged militant affiliated with Amarat-e-Islami while working out a case of extortion.
The arrest of the alleged militant Misal Khan Afridi was made from Khajuri area in the Bara subdivision in Khyber Agency. The CTD claimed that the cellular phone used for making the extortion call to the owner of a wedding hall on the Dilazak Road, Malik Intikhab, was also taken into custody.
The CTD had lodged a case under Anti-Terrorism Act 1997 at its special police station on the complaint of Malik Intikhab on January 29 after he reported that he had received calls for payment of Rs10 million as extortion from unknown people.
“For investigating the case, a special team was constituted at the CTD that worked out the case and arrested Misal Khan Afridi from Khajuri Bara along with the cellular phone used in making extortion calls. The accused has disclosed names of his accomplices and also revealed his affiliation with Amarat-e-Islami,” claimed the official communiqué of the CTD.
The CTD officials said the Amarat is not the Islamic State or Daesh but another local group from Khyber Agency. The CTD officials are said to have shifted the accused to an unknown place for interrogation. Special teams have been constituted for conducting raids to arrest the accomplices of the accused.
