Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has announced that it will continue its policy to provide financial assistance to the needy and deserving students, enabling them to continue their future study.
There are about nine financial assistance/scholarships’ schemes which support such students, Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Shahid Siddiqui said adding “We want to ensure that fee-payment should not be a hurdle in educational pursuits Nobody should be left without education because of financial constraints,” he said in his statement on the occasion of ‘Open Day’ held at the university’s main campus to project students’ support schemes.
The students can apply for these scholarships while applying for admission, Spring 2016. The last date for the admission is March 21 without late fee.
The schemes include a merit-based scholarship which aims at generating competition among students and encourage brilliant students. The scholarship is being offered both to the fresh and continuing students who score 75% and above marks in their latest results.
AIOU as mega university in the public sector fulfils its responsibility ensuring education for All and bring the educational facility at their door-step of the students through the distance education system, he added.
The ‘Open-Day’ function was largely attended by students and tutors from Rawalpindi and Islamabad regions. They were briefed about the admission process by the Dean Faculty of Sciences Dr. Nagmana Rashid, Registrar Dr. Muhammad Naeem Qureshi, Director Regional Services Arif Saleem Arif, Director Admissions, Syed Zia-ul Hasnain and Director Students Affairs Rana Tariq Javed.
The university has broadened the scope of its existing ‘Students Support System’ to cover the maximum number of the needy students, giving relaxation in their fee.
The scholarship package includes: Earn to learn scheme, Outreach Scholarship Scheme, Final Year Project Grant Scheme, Scholarship for Communities, Scholarship for Women, Fee Instalment Scheme and Alumni-Sponsored Scholarship.
Deserving and needy students who fall in these schemes were advised to contact the nearest Regional Campus of the University for the assistance in accordance with the prescribed rules. Interested students can download application form from the university’s website and send it to the given address along with his/her academic documents.
The scholarship could also be availed if annual income of any student or his parent is less than Rs250,000.
The University Executive Council has already approved these schemes. Necessary funds for the schemes have been earmarked in the annual budget.
