A court on Thursday accepted the charge sheet filed against former employee of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) accused of killing his mother with a kitchen knife.
Having previously sought the charge sheet within three days, Judicial Magistrate (South) Sheesh Khoso accepted the charge sheet presented by the investigation officer (IO); the accused, was also ordered to be provided with copies of the charge sheet.
According to the IO, the chemical report had confirmed that the sample of the blood (of the deceased) had matched the blood stains on the knife. The court was informed of an alleged property dispute between the accused and his brother.
The accused, Ghulam Rabbani, a former deputy director of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), was arrested on February 18 after he allegedly killed his 64-year-old mother, Naseem Akhtar, and injured his sister, Tasneem Fatime, and brother-in-law, Naseem Qadri, in the Boat Basin police limits.
The murder took place in the flat of the slain, situated near the Abdullah Shah Ghazi shrine, where the accused had argued with his mother, apparently over a property dispute.
The alleged killer was produced before the magistrate (South) for a custody request and had since been on a physical remand.
A police team attended the crime scene, took the man into custody and seized the knife, which was allegedly used in the murder. The accused was said to be handed over to the police by a neighbor who had caught him after the murder.
The deceased and the injured – accused sister and brother-in-law- were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. According to preliminary investigations, the suspect reportedly had divorced his wife a day earlier the murder took place.
The very next day, when Rabbani returned home from office, he killed his mother after an altercation over a property dispute.
