Teachers warn of besieging Punjab Assembly on 31st

MULTAN: Activists of the Punjab Teachers Union (PTU) observed hunger strike against the Punjab government’s anti-teachers policies here on Thursday.

The teachers led by PTU senior vice-president Rana Altaf, district president Chaudhry Tahir Warraich and Ashfaq Ansari set up a hunger strike camp at Nawan Sheher Chowk. They chanted slogans against the government. The protesting teachers warn of besieging the Punjab Assembly on Mach 31. During the hunger strike, condition of a teacher became critical. Meanwhile, talking to newsmen, the PTU office-bearers said that the PTU had launched the protest drive from March 16 against handing over 1,000 schools to the private sector. They said that the government had spent millions of rupees on the mega projects, including the metro bus, but it was allegedly reluctant to spend funds on the education sector.
