Thalassaemia treatment under PBM lauded

Islamabad: European Union Ambassador to Pakistan Jean Francois Cautain has appreciated thalassaemia treatment facilities under an initiative of Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal (PBM) and lauded PBM efforts in curing children with no financial resources.

He expressed these views during his meeting with Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal Managing Director Barrister Abid Waheed Sheikh here on Wednesday.

The ambassador was greatly impressed by the value efforts for accommodating the deprived persons in the field of healthcare, education, self-reliance and rehabilitation. He especially appreciated the steps being taken to extend ray of hope among the poor thalassaemic patients.

Later, in a meeting, the EU ambassador and the PBM managing director discussed various issues of importance to the betterment of poor Pakistanis.

Barrister Abid Waheed, on the occasion, highlighted various steps taken for ensuring socio-economic rights to the most vulnerable groups. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to take practical measures in social protection. MD told that Pakistan Thalassemia Centre is dedicated to serve thalassaemia patients of all over the country including AJK, GB and FATA, and within one year, around 500 poor thalassaemia patients have been provided excellent clinical and compassionate care free of charge.

Barrister Abid Waheed said that Pakistan and EU relations are well-regarded and substantial humanitarian assistance of EU to Pakistan during times of natural calamities is highly appreciative.

While expressing his feelings, Jean Francois Cautain said that the EU and Pakistan are bound together by a shared history and by common goals and values. He also pledged to facilitate cooperation with PBM in poverty reduction and social development, saying that “In coming days we will continue to work closely with PBM making achievements for the poor citizens of Pakistan.”
