IGP visits LRH to meet injured cops, civilians
Says policemen saved Shabqadar from bigger destruction
PESHAWAR: Inspector General of Police Nasir Khan Durrani on Tuesday visited the Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) to enquire after the health of those injured in the terrorist attack at the Shabqadar town of the Charsadda district.
The IGP went round the wards. He met the injured police constable Abdul Mabood and other citizens hurt in the blast, Asif, Aftab Hussain and Fazal Said. The police chief enquired after the health of the police jawan and other injured and gave them bouquets.
He paid glowing tributes to the injured constable and citizens for their valour and courage exhibited against the terrorists. When the IGP said, “we will win this war with the help of the general public”, an injured and confident citizen Aftab Hussain said, ‘’Sir! We have already won this war.’’
Talking to reporters, the IGP said the police jawans, particularly the head constable Mian Naseemullah Khan and constable Muhammad Yaman, had stopped the attacker from entering the court.
After being impeded by head constable, the suicide bomber opened fire, injuring a number of cops but an injured constable Muhammad Yaman chased the attacker and got hold of him who later detonated the explosives strapped to his body. The IGP said had the suicide bomber succeeded in entering the court or struck in bazaar, the destruction would have been higher.
The police chief said the prime minister and the Army chief had appreciated the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police performance in the Shabqadar incident which was a great source of inspiration and morale booster for the entire force. To a question, Nasir Khan Durrani said that extortionists were using the SIMs of the Afghan cellular phone companies. “We have brought this issue into the notice of Afghan ambassador, who recently visited Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” he added. He added the envoy assured that stern action would be taken against the extortionists operating from the Afghan soil.
