KARACHI: Supreme Court of Pakistan has summoned Chairman and Director General National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in-person tomorrow (March 9) in a matter of corruption and embezzlement of public funds in Sindh Police.
Sources close to NAB informed The News that there are two inquiries of corruption and embezzlement of public funds of near Rs. 3.5 billion against Police officers of Sindh Police pending in NAB Sindh and apex court could ask about the progress in these inquiries.
Sources added that these inquiries were assigned by the chairman NAB in June 2015, completed by the Investigation Officers of NAB Sindh in November 2015 and according to the rules of Bureau should be forwarded to the chairman to put matter before the Executive Board Meeting for further action but both the inquiries despite completion were kept in cold storage.
According to sources these inquiries were related to embezzlement in purchase of Close-Circuit TV Cameras (CCTV), procurement of police uniforms, ration for non-existing messes of police department, feeding charges, purchase of Armored Personal Carriers (APCs), procurement of civil works, and over and under invoicing. NAB spokesman Asim Nawazish avoided commenting saying the matter is subjudice and speculations should be avoided.
