Thousands to participate in PTU Lahore rally on 14th

From Our Correspondent

JHANG: Punjab Teachers Union (PTU) central vice-president Ramzan Inqalabi has criticised the Education EDO for allegedly issuing orders to withhold salaries of teachers and head teachers for low enrollment in schools.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, he alleged that enrollment was decreasing in government schools due to inefficiency of administrative officers. He further alleged that a large number of retired and in-service administrative officers of the Education Department were running their own private schools. He said that thousand of teachers across the province would attend a PTU rally against the proposed privatisation of schools in front of the CM House in Lahore on March 14.

He said that if demands of the teachers were not met, they would be constrained to expand their protest and would stage a sit-in in front of the Punjab Assembly.

When contacted, Education Executive District Officer Nasim Ahmad Zahid claimed that on directions of the Punjab education secretary, disciplinary action would be taken against teachers and head teachers of those schools, which had failed to achieve enrollment target. He said that he had no information that how many retired and in-service government officials were running private schools in the district.
