Mamnoon in Jakarta to attend OIC summit

JAKARTA: President Mamnoon Hussain arrived in the Indonesian capital on Sunday to participate in the fifth Extraordinary Organisation for Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit on Palestine and Al-Quds Al Sharif being held today (Monday).

President Mamnoon was received by Indonesian Minister for Villages, Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration Marwan Jafar at the Halim Air Base. First Lady Begum Mehmooda Mamnoon accompanied the president.

Mamnoon on Monday will join heads of state and representatives from 49 Muslim states at the summit which will discuss the situation in Palestine vis-a-vis the Israel’s unjustified occupation of the Al-Quds Al Sharif.

Minister for Climate Change Zahid Hamid, who attended the ministerial-level meeting of the OIC, said the participants strongly condemned the illegal occupation of Palestinian territories by Israel.

The foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Iran, Indonesia, Tajikistan Palestine, Egypt and Oman were among those who attended the event. He said the representatives of Muslim countries unequivocally extended support to the Palestinian people and urged the international community to take notice of the construction of Israeli settlements in Palestinian lands.

The minister said he advocated Pakistan’s stance for an independent state of Palestine for the lasting peace in Middle East. He said that Pakistan was desirous of an early resolution of the Palestinian issue in a just and fair manner in line with the wishes of Palestinian people.
