Pushing out VIPs
None of the ruling parties – the PPP, the PML-N and the PTI – have been able to eliminate the VIP culture and uproot bribery so far. This is evident from the complaint lodged by The News journalist Mariana Baabar in ‘Open letter to Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani’ (February 20) about a person using a vehicle bearing the number plate of a senator (though the person was later found to have no relations with the senator) who harassed her and other motorists on the Islamabad Expressway.
VIP culture has gained more importance and strength over time. Why do our parliamentarians need vehicles with special number plates? The prime minister can at least announce an end to this privilege to prove his sincerity in eliminating the culture of pomp and luxury.
