95 arrested in Nowshera; minor killed in Bannu blast
HANGU: The police rounded up 65 proclaimed offenders and suspected persons during search and strikes operations in the district, an official said on Saturday.
District Police Officer (DPO) Shah Nazar said the arrests were made during the month of February.
He said that the arrests were made during search and strikes operations in Hangu city, Thall, Doaba and surrounding localities.
He said the arrested accused included 32 proclaimed offenders, three drug traffickers and 30 suspects.
He said the police also recovered 20 rifles, six SMGs, 34 pistols, two hand grenades, hundreds of cartridges and drugs from them.
Our correspondent in Nowshera adds: The law-enforcement agencies on Saturday arrested 95 suspected persons during a joint search operation in parts of the district, police officials said.
They said the arrested persons included 30 Afghan nationals who were staying illegally in the district.
They said the personnel of the security forces, police, Elite Force and intelligence agencies took part in the search operation conducted in Wapda Colony in Taro Jabba, Mumriz Chowki, Drab Kacha Ghari, Khan Sher Ghari, Pabbi tehsil and surrounding localities.
They said 20 persons were arrested for not complying with the tenancy laws and 45 others were suspects. They said the law enforcers also recovered two Kalashnikovs as many pistols and three kilogram of hashish during the search.
Minor killed in Bannu blast: A minor boy was killed and another sustained injuries when an explosive device went off in the limits of the Maryan Police Station here Saturday, police officials said.
They said that the children were playing in Khushk Alkadah area when they saw a thermos nearby. They said the blast occurred as one of the kids touched it.
As a result, the police said, a child Musa Khan was killed on the spot while another Zardan Khan sustained critical wounds in the blast.
They said the slain and injured children belonged to North Waziristan Agency and their families had been shifted to Bannu after the launch of the operation Zarb-e-Azb there.
The police said that the militants had filled thermos with explosives and concealed them at various places in the hills which, they claimed, were floated down with the rain water.
