Transparent policy urged for distribution of LNG in Punjab

From Our Correspondent

FAISALABAD: Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry senior vice-president Syed Zia Alamdar Hussain has demanded a comprehensive, clear and transparent policy for judicious distribution of imported LNG among the textile value added sector of Punjab.

In a statement issued here on Friday, the FCCI SVP lauded Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi for arranging LNG for the value added textile sector, particularly during the starved winter season. He said that generally it was a practice for the last one decade that Sui gas supply was first trimmed according to its availability and later it was completely denied to the value added textile sector, which was earning precious foreign exchange in the country. This situation was alarming as it also rendered millions of workers jobless in addition to failure of local exporters to fulfill their foreign commitments, he added. The first ship carrying LNG had already been berthed while second ship was expected to reach Pakistan on March 8, 2016, he said. He said that the government should now evolve a fair strategy for LNG distribution among the important sectors of the economy. The value added textile sector should be given top priority in its distribution instead of its allocation on first come first serve basis, he suggested. He demanded immediate announcement of chargeable price of imported LNG so that the industrialists consuming it could determine its actual cost.
