KARACHI: Commodore Dr Nassar Naqvi has said Pakistan Navy would continue holding tennis activities in the country being an active unit of Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF).
He was speaking at the closing ceremony of Pak Bahria Open Ranking Tennis Championship at Karsaz on Wednesday.
“Clubs, associations, parents, and children have a major role in sports. This event was quite a success due to the active involvement of all these,” he added.
He said they would continue supporting this event and other sports activities.
Vice President PTF Gulzar Feroz on the occasion said there was a need to sponsor small groups of junior players.
“Pakistan Navy should come forward and continue supporting tennis activities in the country since PN is an affiliated unit of PTF and it is mandatory for units to hold national events,” said Gulzar.
Bahria College Noor-I won the inter-collegiate trophy by beating Bahria College Karsaz in the final.
The title of under-9 singles was won by Zain Ehtisham after defeating Abdullah Aftab 9-7 in the final.
The final of under-11 singles was won by Ahsan Mir who defeated Saim Danish 8-6.
The title of under-13 singles was won by Rayyan Suhail who beat Mujahidullah Khatak 6-2, 4-6, 10-2 in the final.
Shazil Malik won the title of under-15 category. Mujahidullah Khatak was the runner up.
In the special girls’ event, Saima Ayub stood first and Iqra Batool stood second.
The special boys’ event was won by Mohammad Arham and Rizwan stood second. The title of under-19 category was clinched by Abdul Majeed from Hyderabad who defeated Nadir Bachani 6-3, 6-1 in the final.
