MULTAN: Two terrorists of the proscribed Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ), Ghulam Shabbir alias doctor and Ahmed Ali alias Sheesh Nag, were hanged till death in the New Central Jail, Multan, amid strict security on Wednesday.
The first convict, Ahmed Ali was involved in killing three people on the Railway Road, Multan, while Ghulam Shabbir was involved in killing a DSP and his driver. Their bodies were handed over to their close relatives at 8am by Jail Superintendent Saeedullah Gondal, who said Ahmed Ali was hanged at 5.45am and Ghulam Shabbir at 6.15am.
A special anti-terrorism court of Multan had issued the death warrants of Ghulam Shabbir alias doctor in 2002. He was declared a convict for murdering DSP Anwar Khan and his driver. An activist of banned LeJ, Shabbir gunned down DSP Anwar Khan and his driver Ghulam Murtaza on the Bohar Gate Road on August 4, 2000. He was handed down the death sentence by special anti-terrorism court on June 21, 2002 which was later upheld by the Supreme Court. Another death row convict, Ahmed Ali alias Sheesh Naag, had killed three persons on the Railway Road, Multan, on January 7, 1998.
Online adds: Another convicted terrorist Akram Lahori will be executed today (Thursday) in Lahore. Implementation of capital punishment will be carried out at Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail. The jail has received death warrant for Akram Lahori involved in sectarian killings.
He was involved in killing of an Iranian diplomat while 30 other murder cases were also registered against him. According to another report, the Superintendent of Central Jail, Sukkur, Shahid Chhajro, said the jail authorities had received black warrants for three convicts, who will be executed on January 13.
A special court of Karachi had issued black warrants for three death row convicts after their links were established with a banned militant outfit. The jail administration on Tuesday received the death warrants of Muhammad Talha, Khalil Ahmed and Shahid Hanif, and had started taking measures to hang the convicts.
All the three prisoners will be hanged at 6.30am on January 13. The jail administration has said the gallows have been prepared, while the security of the prison has also been tightened in view of security reasons.
