HBL-PSL Shehzad, Sanga lift Quetta to 174
KARACHI: Quetta Gladiators set a target of 175 for Islamabad United in the final of HBL-Pakistan Super League at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium here on Tuesday.
Quetta failed to capitalise on the third-wicket partnership between Ahmed Shahzad and Kumar Sangakkara of 87 runs. A score of more than 180 had looked very likely but they failed to accelerate in the last five overs after Sangakkara got out. He made 55 off 32 balls, hitting seven fours and two sixes.
Shahzad departed after scoring 64 off 39 balls, having struck nine fours and one six.
Mohammad Nawaz and Sarfraz Ahmed got out cheaply, but Grant Elliot and Anwar Ali ensured that Quetta had a defendable total. Elliot scored 12 with a six and Anwar managed 13 with a four and a six.
Andre Russel was the most successful bowler with three for 36. Mohammad Irfan got two for 25.
