SIMPLY PRETTY!

interview

Young and pretty, model Rukhma Maryam stepped into the world of fashion with her debut bridal shoot with photographer Obaid Imtiaz in 2017. She had approached a talent company with her portfolio on the insistence of her friends, and it opened doors to new opportunities for her career. However, Rukhma made her education her first priority. She wanted to graduate before she took up modelling full-time, even if that meant turning down a few projects including a TV serial.

After her graduation in Psychology from FC College Lahore, she resumed her showbiz career with a bang. She has worked with big designers and labels like Nickie Nina, HSY, Allure, Chen One, Master MoltyFoam, Zehra Ahmed, Irum Khan, Zahra Hussain, Heels & Shoes, Rang Rasiya, Tabya, ZK and Mulaye to name a few. She cherishes the time she worked for an ad campaign with Hadiqa Kiani. Moreover, she has also had the opportunity to try her acting chops in music videos such as ‘Mahi’ by Nauman Malik. Currently, she is the co-host in a popular talk show ‘Mazaqraat’. Let’s get to know the beauty secrets of this charming model…

SIMPLY PRETTY!

You! How old were you when you started doing your makeup?

Rukhma Maryam: When I was 18. Before that, I never even knew the difference between a concealer and a foundation.

You! What is your everyday makeup look?

RM: An utterly ‘No Makeup Look’’.

You! When stepping out, do you wear makeup all the time?

RM: I am 99.9 per cent of the times makeup free. I prefer giving my skin some rest in real life.

You! Do you use sunblocks or any serums when you go to shoots?

RM: I apply moisturiser and then layer it with lots of sunblock before I step out for shooting.

You! Any tips for school and university going girls to deal with summer?

RM: Don’t forget your sunblock. Try to avoid a lot of sun exposure and avoid applying a lot of makeup in this weather because sweating in makeup can lead to acne and pimples.

SIMPLY PRETTY!

You! Your favourite perfume?

RM: Victoria’s Secret and SHE.

You! What are your favourite brands in lipsticks?

RM: Not a fan of lipsticks. I mostly wear lip balms.

You! Do you use lighter tones of foundations or warm tones?

RM: I do not own a foundation. I just do a little concealing. I feel like foundation makes your skin look more textured.

You! After coming back from shoots how do you remove makeup and cleanse your skin?

RM: Firstly, I remove the makeup by using micellar water. Then I do proper cleansing by a facewash.

You! Hair gets damaged after straightening and blow drying. How do you manage?

RM: I usually apply a heat protecting spray. Usually, I try to avoid hairstyling and heating my hair to save them from as much damage as I possibly can.

You! What do you do to keep your hair healthy?

RM: I use a soft hairbrush and try to brush my hair very slowly and carefully. Also, I try to oil them once or twice a week.

You! What is your take on natural makeup or zero makeup?

RM: I love zero makeup. Since its very rare that I apply makeup, so I make sure that it’s always natural.

You! Advice for women who can’t buy expensive brands but still want to look good…

RM: There are lots of nice things that you can buy at an economical rate. And they are even far better than other expensive brand labels. One shouldn’t be brand conscious. Branded or not branded, carry yourself with confidence and you’ll look priceless.

You! One thing you can’t give up that keeps you healthy and fit?

RM: Going on a walk almost every day.

You! What is one cosmetic you cannot go without?

RM: I still feel confident without any.

You! When it comes to cosmetics, which brands do you usually use?

RM: I like Dior, L’Oréal Paris and Miss Rose.

You! What’s in your beauty bag?

RM: I have a very basic set of makeup. A concealer, mascara, nude eye shadow palette, highlighter and a few light-coloured lipsticks.

You! Do you go to salon regularly for your facials?

RM: I rarely go for facials and stick to my skin care routine, as I fear that facials might react badly on my skin.

You! When applying makeup, what do you fear the most?

RM: Acne. I went through it once owing to some unhygienic makeup done by some makeup artists. This is also one of the reasons I avoid foundation in real life.

Your favourite local stylist:

RM: I really love Tabish Khoji’s work.

You! Your favourite international stylist:

RM: Bryon Javar.

You! Your go-to place for hair and makeup?

RM: No specific place. I just go to my makeup artist friends whenever I have to get ready for any event.

You! Your beauty regimen?

RM: Use less makeup, ensure proper skincare, eat fruits and vegetables, exercise regularly and try to be happy.

You! Do you use anti-aging creams?

RM: Sunblock is the biggest anti-aging product. It slows the aging process. I only use sunblock. But I am also going to add retinol to my skincare. As retinol plays a huge role in reducing fine lines and wrinkles.

You! Where do you go for your makeup shopping?

RM: I mostly order my stuff online.

You! Do you use whitening creams?

RM: Not at all. In fact, I am someone who is a fan of dusky complexion. Honestly, I always wished that I look dusky.

You! What does beauty mean to you?

RM: Beauty is not how great one looks. For me it’s confidence and intellect.
