Umair Rafiq is a theatre director, producer and an actor. He started his career with theatre and proved his mettle as a fine actor through his versatile performances. Umair is a professional theatre artist. He joined The National Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA) in 2015 and got diploma in Arts and Theatre. Later he was selected for a TV serial (for a private channel) via audition. He started his acting career on TV with ‘Teri Meri Kahani’ with Saboor Aly in 2018.
Up till now, Rafiq has done 200 shows and four drama serials – ‘Teri Meri Kahani’; ‘Ik Adhoori Larki’; ‘Kahwab Nager Ki Shehzadi’ and ‘Berukhi’. As a theatre director and producer he has done three projects under banner Green Eye Production. He was appreciated for showing great acting skills in ‘Berukhi’ with Hiba Bukhari and Junaid Khan in 2021.
These days he is busy shooting for two dramas for two private channels and arranging theatre shows for schools. This week in an exclusive interview with You!, this young and talented actor shares his likes and dislikes with our readers…
What are your most memorable theatre plays to-date?
Definitely, it’s ‘Heer Ranjha’ – my all time favourite.
What is your first love – acting or theatre?
Of course, acting - whether it’s for theatre or TV.
Your favourite international labels:
Not a fan of one, but yeah I love to wear ZARA, Tommy and Massimo Datti.
What do you usually wear in daily life?
I like casual wear mostly pyjamas and hoodies.
What is your favourite thing in your private collection right now?
I love watches and I have an impressive collection of watches. These are timeless pieces.
Your most valuable possession:
My Family, friends and then my precious watches.
Your favourite co-star:
Nazish Jahangir.
What’s your most annoying habit?
I forget things. I know this is a very annoying habit of mine.
What is your biggest fear?
To lose my loved ones.
What is the best purchase you have ever made?
Once I got a very expensive watch at a discounted rate. I think that was my best purchase.
What bores you the most?
Sitting idle. I like to remain busy with work and shootings.
You are crazy about…
Travelling. However, for the past two years I couldn’t travel much because of the pandemic.
What are your favourite restaurants?
P.F. Chang’s and Zeytin.
What’s your favourite breakfast food?
It has to be halwa puri.
Your all time favourite movies:
‘The Prestige’ and ‘Rock Star’.

What are your healthy habits?
I am a firm believer in taking fresh vegetables and fruits in my daily meals. I try to stay away from meaty and sweet dishes.
Your fitness regimen…
I am a fitness freak. I run every day for 5km and never miss gym workout. I love to participate in physical activities.
Your favourite exercise…
Crossfit.
Happiness is…
Theatre.
Who are your celebrity crushes?
Janhvi Kapoor and Nina Dobrev.
Which superstar do you envy the most?
Difficult question. Actually I don’t envy anyone.
What’s the last thing you bought?
A Car.
What books are on your bedside table?
Most of them are from Linda Howard (an American author). These days I am reading ‘Mr. Perfect’.
You get super uncomfortable when…
When somebody won’t count my presence.
Your first pay cheque:
My first pay cheque was for 3000/- for a web designing project. And I was thrilled!
Which fictional character would be the most exciting to meet in real life?
Thomas Shelby.
Which was your favourite cartoon character when you were growing up?
I always excited to watch wonderful cartoons like ‘Ninja Turtles’, ‘Popeye’, and ‘Tom & Jerry’.
How do you like to spend your Sundays?
Mostly at home with family.
How do you unwind?
Going out of station.
What is your favourite thing to do on a Saturday Night?
Hang out with friends.

Never show your loved ones that you can’t live without them.
