INTROSPECTION
There are so many elements human souls long for – our souls are made up of stardust and curiosity, these two are the essence of our existence as said by poets and writers. Curiosity is the reason why all the complicated theories are developed and evolved each day, inventions are made and answers are found. Humans are curious by nature; the intensity measure of curiosity varies from person to person and the measure decides the extent of exploration, and while humans explore, they long for certainty, confirmation, assurance, reliability and all the synonyms languages can produce, hence, one of the elements humans long for is certainty.
It is said over and over again that intelligent people are closer to unhappiness, because they know things which ruin the idea of pleasure world has built. Most of us live in the bubbles of ignorance until we’re hit by a reality and then we never find the courage to go back into fantasy. As I earlier stated, humans long for some elements, but humans are afraid of some elements as well, one of them being uncertainty. While we talk about overthinking so much these days, we pay less attention to what causes it. A lot of us who suffer from overthinking are highly intelligent and when we don’t know something, we think of all the possible outcomes and reach to a conclusion which may or may not be true, but we always reach to a conclusion. Uncertainty alarm us and we run after the truth.
It is proven through various researches that uncertainty can lead to seriously damage our physical and mental wellbeing. When a person isn’t able to find answers, s/he experiences a feeling of restlessness which later turns into major anxiety, the anxiety of not knowing. Prime example of this behavior is when an anxious person is in a relationship, emotions that involve attachments are already complicated for someone who goes through episodes of anxiety hence, when they’re in something which is said to be a roller coaster ride of uncertainties, they tend to lose control over their emotions and start developing insecurities. As a result of their insecurities, they sometimes try to control things which are out of their control, their tolerance level drops and they end up destroying their mental peace. It is a fact that we still have a long way to go to understand the minds of mentally ill people hence they rarely find tolerant and understanding people when it comes to attachments.
As much as we try to plan things, it cannot be denied that life is full of uncertainties. However, the anxiety which ensues can be controlled. By accepting and letting go of the things which can’t be controlled; for instance, preparing well for an exam or a job interview is under one’s control but the results aren’t. A common mistake we all make is that we beat ourselves around the bush to get our desired results, we try way too hard to make things work be it a relationship or our careers, we want everything to last forever which isn’t possible, so acceptance is the key to control the anxiety which comes with uncertainty. Accept that some things are meant to fail, some things are not meant to be ours, some people were never ours to begin with, some places were not our places and acceptance will be our first step towards peace.
