The perfect dress can make a memorable evening out of any occasion....

beauty talk

Evening dresses are definitely a must have when it comes to any woman’s wardrobe as they can offer you that glamorous look that is needed when attending certain special evening events which are generally defined by low music, intimate mingling, slow dancing and lively chatting. To get the right dress for these fun adult events, you need to get the right dress that matches your personal style. Paying attention to the latest fashion trends is a must if you want others to perceive you as a confident woman with an incredible fashion sense. An elegant designer jora can amp up your confidence and poise in any party or event. The perfect dress can make a memorable evening out of any occasion.

Shahina Faisal is one such designer who has been designing beautiful clothes since 20 years. She creates a diverse array of designs for a modern woman ranging from traditional, contemporary to fusion designs and are in-sync with the on-going trends. According to Shahina, she has always been interested into designing clothes, “I always had a feel for fashion even at a very young age. Growing up I pursued my dream. I believe in making women feel beautiful. Beautiful clothes give a woman’s personality the edge and confidence to inspire her and people around her. My clothes are feminine but making a statement at the same time.” elucidates Shahina. “I started designing with short kurtis for my USA clients, and when I was encouraged by my friends and clients, I decided to do it on regular basis. Now I have come up with my own label ‘Su by Shahina’, Su is a Spanish word which means you” she adds.

Talking about latest trends in summer, she says, “Summers are all about comfort and wearing pretty clothes. This season it is about print play, intricate embroideries and simple silhouettes.

I love soft colours for the summer! Karachi summers are too gruelling to wear dark harsh colours. I also see a lot of contemporary cuts as well as western inspired edgy but feminine cuts going to be popular in summer.”

While explaining her choice of fabrics, Shahina tells, “Every fabric is beautiful in its own way and I like to experiment with anything and everything. I absolutely love working with chiffons, and silk as they have this beautiful elegance to them and the lightness of the fabric is perfect for the summers. For my casual pret, I use cotton net and linen.”

Shahina believes that women should wear whatever makes them feel beautiful. “I always advise my clients to invest in one tasteful piece rather than getting five unflattering ones. Watching your creations being worn by women is a very satisfying feeling,” she shares.

So, in your opinion what is the biggest mistake women make while dressing here? To this end Shahina responds, “Sometimes women carry dresses that don’t match their style or being over dressed for an occasion. A person’s wardrobe choices are a reflection of their personality and taste so it is important to choose what they wear carefully.”

Well, if on one hand Shahina loves designing clothes, on the other hand she finds it perpetually difficult to get the things done on time. “Dealing with labour is quite a task. Unpredictable power cutbacks and unannounced holidays from workers are some of the difficulties we, designers, face almost all the time,” she tells. So, how long does it usually take to design an outfit? “If it’s only a cut and I just have to use lace on a fabric then it takes only two days. However, if it’s a bridal jora or involves intricate embroidery then it takes at least 2 to 4 weeks to get it done,” replies Shahina. She is happy that lot of young and talented designers are venturing in this field. “There is lot of potential for young designers to explore the market but they may as well prepared for the hard work too,” she warns.

These days Shahina is busy working on her new hand-painted fabric collection. She has plans to make her label recognised in domestic as well as international markets.
