Thinking of adding a table to your home? You! takes a look at the kinds of tables that can be useful...

Add a console table:

Decorating the lobby or the entrance with a console table can make a strong impression on guests. Since a console table is narrow in width and tall in size, it takes up less space on the floor and rests against the wall. It is also a perfect spot to place lamps, family photos, flower vase, welcome frames, and fancy mirrors. It is a great place to stock up smaller items such as keys, cell phones, bags etc.

Centre table for the family room:

The centre table is the hub of social activity in your living or family room and the right choice can make a big impact on the room's overall look. The main purpose of a centre table is to keep the drinks reachable for every guest and it takes care of all those things you like to have close by.

In the recent times, three-piece table set (one middle and two small side tables) have been replaced by sleek, shiny, and modern glass top tables. A glass table can add elegance to the living room and a touch of class to the interior of any living space.

You can dress up the centre table with items that exhibit your aesthetic sense and your passion for nature, for example sea shell collection, fancy trays, books with bright covers, ash tray, or some interesting sculpture. However, it is not a good idea to over clutter the tabletop. You should leave plenty of space for setting cups, plates, or any other personal items.

If you have opted for a long rectangle centre table then you can easily divide it into three sections - left for the decoration piece, middle for the flower vase and the right section for magazines or newspapers.

Select the right dining table:

The dining table is an important feature of our home as the family and guests gather here to eat. A dining table comes in wood, glass and metal styles. Before buying a dining table, consider the room size, table size and its functionality. It is best to look for a rectangle table for spacious room, for evening family dinner, get-together and for festival dinners. On the other hand, a round table meets the small dining room needs. It sets the mood for intimate friendly gatherings, close table conversations, and small family meals. Round dining table is also an ideal option for the families with small children because there are no sharp edges. Go for a sturdy round table that has a wide pedestal base.

To decorate the dining table, set a fresh fruit basket as a centrepiece as it adds colours to the dining table. You can also set a vase with fresh flower in the centre of the table; however, it should not be too big to block the view or any guest sitting across the table. Colourful vases or handmade pottery pieces are also a good way to decorate the table giving an artistic touch at the same time. These days aromatic, and colourful candles are quite in; candles can serve the purpose of decor as well as lighten up your dining room.

Care tips:

Tabletops are susceptible to scratches, marks, stains, and nicks. Harsh keys, plate bottoms can scratch the wood, and dishes of extremely hot food are known to destroy the varnish. This is why sometimes cleaning and taking care of tables can become a challenge. However, your table will last for many years if treated properly. Here are some tips:

• Avoid direct sunlight to protect wood and its varnish. Wipe with clean cloth after every meal.

• To clean greasy marks or sticky surface always use dampened soft cloth with water mixed with mild dish soap. Dry the table well with lint free cloth.

• Use coasters to protect your glass tables from heat and water rings.

• Avoid polishing with pure olive oil, which smears and attracts dust. Applying wax or polish to reduce surface scratches.

• Never set heavy decoration pieces on a glass tabletop as the glass might crack.

• Take off rings before cleaning to avoid scratches on the glass table top.
