He wasn’t kidding when he said ‘I’ll be back!’ in The Terminator (1984) because since then, he has returned twice – Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) and Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003) to save the Connor family from dying. Fans of Arnold Schwarzenegger always knew that he would make a comeback as T-800 and he doesn’t disappoint his countless fans in Pakistan by returning as promised.

Fans of Arnold Schwarzenegger always knew that he would make a comeback as T-800 and he doesn’t disappoint his countless fans in Pakistan by returning as promised. The film may not have done well in Hollywood but Pakistan is a different market; here anything related to the uber-heroes of the 80s is considered gold. Read on if you want to know the 5 reasons why Terminator Genisys works in this part of the world…

I’ve been waiting for you!

The second film in the franchise – Terminator 2: Judgment Day aka T2 – is a favourite amongst all those who saw it in 1992 when it released. 23 years later, kids who were part of that lucky generation that got to watch T2 in cinemas (including this scribe) have grown into men and the men of the ‘90s have matured into elderly citizens. They always knew at the back of their minds that the man versus machine thrills would continue. Terminator Genisys provides them the chills, thrills and excitement they have all been waiting for all these years.

Come with me if you want to live!

No, I am not talking about the second flick where Arnold Schwarzenegger delivered this iconic one-liner. In fact, it was immortalized in The Terminator and is back here in the fifth installment. And it is delivered by Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke), the very person to whom it was spoken to in the first film! The character who delivered the iconic line - Kyle Reese (Michael Biehn in the original movie, Jai Courtney in the latest one) - is the one who needs saving this time around. Interesting, if you think about it!

Back to the future!

The fifth installment in the franchise sort of reminds you of Back To The Future especially when there is talk about Time Travel. The protagonist travels back in time but lands in an alternate version of the targeted time, alters the timeline as he moves around and has to do unthinkable things in order to restore peace to the space time continuum. Got it?

Old, not obsolete!

Ever wondered how things might have been had T-1000 been sent to 1984 instead of 1991? I always thought about that and voila, the makers of the franchise were on the same wavelength as I! T-1000 arrives back in time and makes life difficult for all including the older version of T-800 (Arnold Schwarzenegger) but he fails to anticipate that Arnie is ‘old, not obsolete.’ Watch the film to know more!

Ode to the franchise

Scenes that were recreated from the first and second film in the series were just too good, if you were a fan of the franchise. Be it the evil T800 (from The Terminator) fighting the good T800 (from Terminator 2: Judgment Day) or the arrival of Kyle Reese from the future, and his subsequent escape from the clutches of the police, everything seems perfect and in the right place. Even the fighting sequences remind you of the first two films and although Arnie doesn’t get to ride a motorbike, he has a scene where he does fight John Connor, the very person he was sent to save in the second installment. Cool, isn’t it?
