Most women pride themselves in knowing the perfect hair and makeup for work, home-time and of course parties and shaadis. A new kind of makeup style, however, that has become huge of late is ‘Zoom Makeup’.

How can one have just that right look for video-conferencing, whether on FaceTime, WhatsApp, WeChat, Skype, Facebook Messenger, Zoom, or any platform you may be using. You want to expend as little effort as possible as you are at home, but at the same time, you want to - as always - look polished, groomed and like the Million Dollar It Girl that you are.

So, we at You! have your back, and have put together not only some really helpful and en pointe Zoom makeup and on camera tips, but have asked the makeup gurus of Pakistan for their 411, all just for you.

Tip #1: Go for bold makeup: If you have a last-minute work video call or even call with your friends, wear a bold lipstick - that won’t get washed out by the camera - and mascara. It automatically gives a finished look. If you can, also touch up your cheekbones and forehead with a highlighter and a hint of blush. There is also a Zoom option to auto touch-up your face.

Tip #2: Use dry shampoo: Don’t underestimate the importance of a stylised hair look. Even for a quick call, it’s worth it to use some dry shampoo and if you can, use a curling iron just in your front tresses to frame your face nicely. Especially if you work in a bank or multinational, present a polished, executive look.

Tip #3: Place your cell phone in your mug: This tip is simply incredible as it’s easy, basically cost-free, and ensures your cell phone doesn’t move during the call and your hands are free.

Tip #4: Use a laptop if you can: Yes, it’s cumbersome but generally you will look better with the laptop placed slightly at a higher angle looking down on you and immobile, then looking straight at your cell phone. This higher angle eliminates the look of any neck wrinkles, any possible double chin and makes your eyes look wider and brighter.

Tip #5: Lightening is everything: Soft, diffused lightening is key to ensure you look your best. Wander around your home or home office to find that sweet spot where the lightening is just perfect to flatter you. The light has to be coming from the front of you, not top, back or side of it will cast unflattering shadows on your face. If you simply don’t have good lightening in your home, invest in a ring light that illuminates your face perfectly.

4. You can just brush a bit of blush on to add colour.

5. Beam a nice smile to say welcome and look happy. That way, the whole environment becomes positive and changes.

1. Online meetings should not stop you from your grooming rituals. So, start off with your skincare regime and do a light day makeup. A quick foundation, fill your brows, blush, pack on the mascara and wear a bright lipstick.

2. Tie your hair up in a top knot or high pony. It gives a professional look.

3. Stay hydrated! Water is the best beauty investment you need to make so make sure you have your bottle of water nearby.

4. Dress to impress! When you make an effort for yourself, it sets an example for others too and makes an impact.

5. Do not forget to smile.

1. Try to avoid a video call and get on an audio call instead.

2. Find a frame behind the desk so you don’t need to worry about your bottom half.

3. Make sure your skin is in good shape and free of unwanted hair (whichever method you choose).

4. Apply a little bit of concealer (where necessary), cream blush and nude lipstick, (my favourite is all in one ZERO makeup palette).

5. No need to wash your hair more than twice a week. Just freshen up the top and front of your hair with dry shampoo and use a hair tool to make it looked styled and polished.

1. The angle of your camera is very important along with a good posture. Place the camera device at eye-level.

2. Proper lighting is very important; make sure there is no harsh light in the background. Instead, fill your face with front-facing defused natural light.

3. First and foremost is good cleansing and moisturising.

4. Apply a BB cream, tinted moisturiser/foundation for an even skin and do blot off any oil or shine on your face using a translucent powder.

5. Apply a concealer to brighten up the under eye.

6. Do us a little extra blush as webcams often make dull the colour; highlighter can be brushes or tapped on top of the cheekbone. Make sure not to apply the highlighter to the centre of the face to avoid extra shine.

7. Fill in your brows to define and emphasise your eyes using a brow powder or pencil, set by using a gel to hold in place.

8. Applying eyeshadow is optional but lash curling and mascara is definitely a big Yes. To give a more voluminous look to your lashes, thinly line the upper lid with brown/black eyeliner.

9. Line your lips with a lip liner and fill in with a moist lipstick. Another option is to just apply tinted or clear gloss for a fresh-hydrated look.

10. Hair can look good with just a little bit of effort by spritzing the front and blow drying or curling the parts around the face, or just tie in a ponytail or a knot.
