At the beginning of spring, no one could’ve predicted what was in store for us and how it would lead our fashion choices to revolve around comfy pjs and oversized shirts. While we may be lacking reasons to put any real clothes on right now, never mind our favourite ones, there’s a lot to be said for looking ahead. And just as we are finding joy in daydreaming about the places we’ll go once it's safe to do so, many of us are also looking forward to having fun with fashion again - exploring and experimenting with new trends.
As we bid farewell to the spring season and welcome summer, it’s time to get a low down on the latest trends for the season. From wardrobe essentials, to hair and makeup, this week You! rounds up some exciting summer looks that we can’t wait to try out…
One of the best things about summer is diving into our lawn collections. However, with a dilemma to dress up or not, we want to prepare you with an all-rounder outfit. For those of you who don’t want to make an effort, but still want to look cute, this is all you will need. Make sure your kurtas or shirts are a good fit - nothing too tight and nothing too loose. A good fit will have a comfy vibe and look flattering at the same time. When opting for something casual, wear your lawn cotton kurtis with culottes or shalwaar. Only bring out your capris and trousers if you want to be formal. This season is all about comfort and looking great while you’re at it.
When we think of spring, we think florals and for summer we think of bright hues. While peachy corals, mint greens, and floral patterns are going to be a staple in our wardrobe, we also find that berry and plum shades have stuck around for this season too. While dark colours are something that we steer clear of during hot weather, if you choose your fabric right, you can flaunt your favourite dark hues. You can either pair them with something pastel or opt for a print with minimal floral patterns. It will also give you room to experiment with your look.
If you are planning to do a makeover and want it to be simple and summer appropriate, a dusky look is what you need. First, pull out your stock of matte foundations - the best ones to use are stick ones. Stick foundations are quick to apply and give a smooth matte finish. Befriend the bronzer. You can swipe some on your eyes and then dab a little highlighter to create a quick glowy bronzy eye. Then, use a big fluffy brush to apply bronzer to the outer most areas of your face. Don’t be too harsh and don’t dip in the pan too much. You just need a kiss of it on your face. For blush, opt for a classic rosey shade and complement it with a tawny pink lip.
There’s nothing quite like humidity to send you straight to the hairdresser to ask her to chop off all your locks. But before you embark on a major hair makeover, consider the following hairstyles. If you like your hair long and don’t want to chop it during summer, opt for braids to keep your hair out of your face. If you are one of those girls who don’t like how braids create waves afterwards, an elegant neat bun is the way to go. Sleek hair, slick back not only keeps the hair in place but also works for a casual to formal look.
Last but not least, let’s talk about accessories! Every time we need to perk up our outfits, jewellery comes to the rescue. With the right chunky necklace or a pair of sparkly statement earrings, your simple outfit looks even more stylish. And our jewellery options are plentiful and fresh. We are absolutely in love with the big pearl necklace and the gemstone chokers. Especially when it comes to stones set in antique metal designs, it tends to accentuate the gems a little more. For the warm weather, one feels much comfortable in a breezy fabric which also perfectly complements the chunky style. And sometimes, all your outfit is in need of is new accessories.
