You! How did you begin you career in the world of beauty?

Fatima Nasir: I did my first makeup course when I was 16, which you can say has been a very very long time. It was meant to be. After working as a fashion designer for 5 years, I switched my career. But, you know it’s all connected: fashion and beauty.

You! Are you a trained makeup artist?

FN: Yes, I had the pleasure of training with some of the best in business.

You! What inspired you to become a makeup artist?

FN: I have always wanted to be a makeup artist, loved it more than fashion design.

You! What made you open your own studio?

FN: I opened my first studio in 2016, possibly the best decision I have ever made. I like having my own space, everything set up the way I like.

You! What’s latest in makeup this season?

FN: Airbrush makeup is the next big thing, nothing like it. Natural makeup is the new ‘in’ thing now. Most women want to look just like themselves.

You! What kind of hairstyles are in this season?

FN: Organic hairstyles, effortless waves and braids are in. Nothing too made up!

You! What kind of look is trending among brides-to-be?

FN: The Sabyasachi fever isn’t over yet. Brides are still taking inspiration from Indian brides, simple, classic yet modern and understated look.

You! What are your three favourite makeup products?

FN: I love shimmering foundations, cream blush and tinted lip balms!

You! What are your favourite brands in cosmetics?

FN: Huge fan of Becca, Viseart and MAC cosmetics.

You! What makeup trends are totally over?

FN: Thick foundation layers, too much contour and highlight.

You! Are women in Pakistan becoming more experimental when it comes to makeup?

FN: Yes. People are more aware now. Women are not reluctant to try new looks anymore, which is an achievement.

You! What are some of the most common mistakes women tend to make while choosing makeup?

FN: Wrong foundation colour, since most people don’t know much about undertones.

You! What are some of the colours a woman of regular Eastern skin tone should never try?

FN: There’s nothing you shouldn’t ever try, if you can pull it off - go for it!

You! Describe your makeup style in three words...

FN: Clean, subtle and natural.

You! What three products should a woman never leave home without?

FN: Sunscreen, moisturiser and lip balm.

You! What are some common beauty mistakes that women make?

FN: Invest in your skincare, if skin looks great you wouldn’t need to cover it up with makeup all the time.

You! Are there any trends that you absolutely love?

FN: The beautifully blended no makeup looks. Less is more!

You! As we are approaching summer, what colours you suggest for women to wear when it comes to makeup?

FN: Pinks and peachy lip and cheek colours look great in summers.

You! Any makeup tip you would like to share with your readers?

FN: Always try to match your skin tone, be proud of whatever skin colour you are blessed with.

You! What do you love most about your job?

FN: To be able to transform people into anything they want, it’s like a superpower!

You! Do you think social media (esp. Instagram) are good tools to popularise your work?

FN: Yes, absolutely. I get most of the bookings through Facebook/Instagram and word of mouth obviously.

You! What are the biggest challenges makeup artists face these days?

FN: Pleasing every client. They all want different things, they all have different preferences and not all can communicate well.

You! How do you wish to make a change in the beauty scene in here?

FN: By introducing the latest beauty trends, with a hint of fashion!

You! What are you currently working on?

FN: Working on my own beauty brand - only for professional artists.

You! What are your future endeavours?

FN: I’m starting my academy really soon, been working hard on the syllabus; the only meaningful way to give back to the industry.
