Precious materials such as gemstones have always been coveted, and jewellery has been a way of displaying wealth and importance. While the history of jewellery is quite elaborate, the reason why we wear jewellery is quite simple - it is a way to express oneself, to complete an outfit, and to make a statement.

Some people love the sounds of bangles as they move on the wrist, while others enjoy the hidden sparkle of a small gemstone earring. At the same time, jewellery has a personal significance as well, like heirloom pieces passed down through families remind people of their heritage, while some collect pieces of jewellery to remind them of their travels or a specific event in their life.

While we all love and appreciate jewellery, we must also value the effort and the craft of the maker that goes into making one piece.

Keeping this in mind, this week You! features the jewellery designers behind ‘Inherit Fine Diamond Jewellery’.

It all started with Nasreen F Oosman, who first designed a tasbeeh with antique beads and diamonds three decades ago. She then began designing exclusive pieces for her close friends and family as a hobby.

However, soon she decided to take this hobby seriously and pursue it as a profession. Following in her footsteps are her two daughters, Shen Saleem and Sharmeen Hassan, who also share their mother’s passion to create pieces of bespoke jewellery with diamonds and coloured gems.

Their combined love for creating jewellery motivated these women to start their own label ‘Inherit Fine Diamond Jewellery’. “Starting out a business may seem like a daunting task but when it is your passion, there is no fear.

I was designing jewellery way before I launched my label, so when we were starting out, there was no question of fear,” shares Nasreen about her brand.

Since 2005, this brand has been in the sphere by designing customised, exotic and timeless pieces. The cutting-edge, modern designs are created using exquisite and high-quality gems that are acquired from Pakistan and around the globe.

The brand takes its inspiration from nature for its designs and is known for its unique statement pieces that are chic and elegant.

The design philosophy behind the label is pretty simple, to make every woman feel special. “They say diamonds are a woman’s best friend. So, whether it is a half a carat, 10 carats or just a five-cent nose pin, I would love to see every woman wear diamonds. Naturally, women are all very different so there are varying personal tastes to cater for. This is why our designs are not influenced by the masses. We believe in the beauty of bespoke jewellery, hence our designs will never be like ordinary ones,” tells Nasreen

Creating jewellery with diamond and gem stones is meticulous work. It involves analysing the cuts, its angles and making sure that there is a perfect balance to enhance the beauty of the gem.

Hence, every piece created is unique that reflects the personal touch of the maker. “We like designing exclusive and timeless pieces that can be passed down for generations. It’s amazing working with diamonds.

We also incorporate many other gems with diamonds to create our pieces, some of which are kunzite, pariba, rubelite, goshenite beryl. However, a diamond is the hardest and perfect substance found in nature.

We like working with diamonds because it’s difficult to replicate the designs. And while there is a market for knock-off jewellery, it doesn’t worry us because our work cannot be duplicated as they are unique and one of a kind,” elucidates Sharmeen.

When it comes to jewellery pieces like such, it is important that we flaunt them right. Consider pairing them up with the right neckline. It can be anything from high-collar, deep-cut or even scooped neck.

You can pair diamond earrings with diamond bracelet, a subtle necklace with a broad diamond ring. Although, for rings, it’s best if you wear one diamond ring on one hand, as you would never want brilliant pieces to compete with themselves for attention.

Moreover, jewellery shows often offer great style tips on how to perfectly complement your jewellery with your look. The label has also showcased its designs at several jewellery shows which were received quite well. “We have held jewellery shows in Dubai, Multan, Lahore and Karachi. We recently had one in Karachi for which we were very happy with the support received by our family, close friends and clients. The positive response from the audience encouraged us to open an outlet very soon. Currently, I am working on a diamond tea finger nail, which is a diamond and gold nail for the pinky finger. There is also a new collection in the making and we are looking forward to launching it very soon,” concludes Shen.
